• Ledyard, Henry Brockholst (1844-1921) - Began his railroad career in 1870 workin in the Engineering Department of Northern Pacific Railroad.  He left that job to become a clerk for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad later in the same year.  He worked through promotions to become Assistant Superintendent, and then Superintendent of the railroad's eastern division.  He became the assistant to William B. Strong in 1874 who was then Superintendent of the Michigan Central Railroad.  Ledyard replaced Strong in that position in 1876.  He succeeded William H. Vanderbilt as president of the Michigan Central in 1883.  Under Ledyard's leadership, the railroad removed a great number of bridges, tight curves and steep grades, increasing the maximum train length from 30 to 80 cars and doubling the car capacities at the same time.  Ledyard then guided the construction of new lines along the Detroit River, which led to the construction of many large manufacturing plants, including the more well-known automobile plants of today.  Ledyard stepped down from the presidency in 1905 but remained Chairman of the Board.
