  • Wagner, Webster (1817-1883) - Founder of Wagner Palace Car Company.
  • Wainwright, Harry (1864-1923) - Carriage and Wagon Superintendent for South Eastern & Chatham Railway 1899-1913.
  • Warrington, George (1952-2007) - Began railroad career with New Jersey Transit in 1979, eventually promoted to Vice President and General Manager of NJT's rail operations.  Deputy Commissioner of New Jersey Department of Transportation 1990-1992.  Executive Director and President of Delaware River Port Authority and Port Authority Transit Corporation 1992-1994.  President of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor Business Unit 1994-1998; President of Amtrak 1998-2002.  Executive Director of New Jersey Transit 2002-2007.
  • Watkins, J. Elfreth (1852-1903) - American railroad civil engineer and the first curator of the Smithsonian Institution's railroad artifacts, including John Bull.
  • Webb, Francis William (1836-1906) - Apprentice at Crewe Works 1851-1857; Chief Draughtsman at Crewe Works 1859-1861; Works Manager and Chief Assistant to John Ramsbottom at Crewe Works 1861-1866; Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London & North Western Railway 1871-1903.
  • Westinghouse, George (1846-1914) - Developed railroad air brakes in 1869, patented the Westinghouse air brake in 1872, organized the Westinghouse Air Brake Company (WABCO) soon after to produce and market the braking system, founded Union Switch and Signal Company in 1881.
