President of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor Business Unit 1994-1998; President of Amtrak 1998-2002. Executive Director of New Jersey Transit 2002-2007.
- Watkins, J. Elfreth (1852-1903) - American railroad civil engineer and the first curator of the Smithsonian Institution's railroad artifacts, including John Bull.
- Webb, Francis William (1836-1906) - Apprentice at Crewe Works 1851-1857; Chief Draughtsman at Crewe Works 1859-1861; Works Manager and Chief Assistant to John Ramsbottom at Crewe Works 1861-1866; Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London & North Western Railway 1871-1903.
- Westinghouse, George (1846-1914) - Developed railroad air brakes in 1869, patented the Westinghouse air brake in 1872, organized the Westinghouse Air Brake Company (WABCO) soon after to produce and market the braking system, founded Union Switch and Signal Company in 1881.
- Whale, George (1842-1910) - Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London & North Western Railway 1903-1909.
- Wheatley, T. - Chief Mechanical Engineer for North British Railway 1867-1874.
- Wheeler, Burton K. - Chairman of the Senate Interstate Commerce Committee.
