Who's Who in railroad history

Railway and labor executives after meeting with President Roosevelt in 1938Railway and rail labor management after meeting with President Roosevelt on September 20, 1938. Left-to-right are: Ernest E. Norris, David B. Robertson, George M. Harrison, Carl B. Gray, Martin W. Clement, and B. M. Jewell.

Every railroad company that ever existed shares one thing in common: railroaders. Whether they are the finest railroad company executives ever or ruthless robber barons, railroads can't exist without people. In addition to a reference list, this section of The Rip Track will include articles about the famous and sometimes not-so-famous railroaders behind the prototypes that we model.

This list is not complete and is continually expanded and amended as new information is discovered. One thing to note is that there are many cases where someone will be listed as holding executive positions in multiple railroad companies concurrently; this will often happen when someone is listed as the president of a railroad company that is a wholly-owned subsidiary of another larger railroad company. All titles that a person has held related to railroad companies (where I am able to find them), regardless of whether the position was fully realized or in title only, will be included in this list.

Also, while I am adding information to this list, if I find a discrepancy in any of the data, I will make an effort to find reliable sources to resolve the conflict and update the entry in this list with the most accurate information that I am able to find. It is entirely possible that there are many more errors in this list than I know about. If you find an error and can back up your correction with a reliable source, or if you have any other questions or comments about the list, please contact me and we can research and correct the data together. Thank you!
