  • Dargan, William (1799-1867) - Irish engineer known as the "father of Irish railways."  Built the first railway in Ireland in 1833, connecting Dublin to Kingstown.
  • Dautry, Raoul (1880-1951) - Oversaw reconstruction of the northern French rail network after World War I; director of Compagnie des chemins de fer de l'État 1928-1937.
  • Dean, William (1840-1905) - Chief Mechanical Engineer of Great Western Railway 1877-1902.
  • Deeley, Richard (1855-1944) - Chief Mechanical Engineer of Midland Railway 1904-1909.
  • Denney, Charles Eugene (1879-1965) - President of Erie Railroad 1929-1939; president of Northern Pacific Railway 1939-1950.
  • Depew, Chauncey M. (1834-1928) - President of New York Central Railroad 1885-1898.
  • Diescher, Caroline Endres (1846-1930) - Helped engineer the Monongahela Incline and the Mount Oliver Incline in Pittsburgh.
