Clapp, Harold Winthrop (1875-1852) - Began railroad career with the Brisbane Tramway Company. Moved to the US in 1900, eventually finding work on the Interborough Rapid Transit Company in New York. He was in charge of the electrification of the Pennsylvania Railroad's West Jersey and Seashore Divisions. He then moved to Ohio in 1908 and joined the Southern Pacific Railroad where he worked his way up to become a vice president. He also worked during this time for the Columbus Railway Power & Light Company and the East St. Louis Suburban Railway. He returned to Australia in 1920 when he was named Chairman of the Commissioners of Victorian Railways. He was appointed Director-General of Land Transport in 1942; while in this position in 1944, he submitted a plan to convert all existing rail lines in Australia to standard gauge. He retired in 1951.
