Rail transport glossary

Like any other technical endeavor, the rail transport industry has its own set of jargon.  Most of the terms that railroaders and railfans use have origins that are very closely related to the words used in the jargon itself.  Here I will attempt to find as much information as possible on each term or phrase to eventually build a definitive list of the jargon and its origins.

This list will take a long time to develop, and if you have any input that would be helpful, especially where you have documentation for the earliest known usage of a term, I would greatly appreciate reading an email on the matter.
